From challenge to solution: ORASCAN at work @ MANCHESTER Airport
As the third-busiest airport in the UK, with nearly 31 million passengers passing through its doors each year, Manchester Airport requires door solutions that are safe and efficient.
In high-traffic areas such as airports, automatic doors open and close frequently. Traditional sensors struggle to accurately distinguish between pedestrians and stationary objects, leading to unintended door movements, pinching injuries, or delayed responses—all of which can easily result in safety incidents. Pedestrian safety has thus become the most critical challenge for automatic door applications in airport environments.
That is why ORASCAN was selected for the sliding doors in Terminals 2 and 3 of this airport. It uses precise Time-of-Flight (ToF) laser technology to ensure reliable detection, eliminating false activations and entrapment risks, while combining precision, performance, and maximum safety in high-traffic conditions.
